Azam Tigers technical director Robin Alufandika says failure to win trophies this season is “disappointing”.
Alufandika said this after his team was handed a 2-1 defeat by Kamuzu barracks on Thursday 09.11.2017 at Civo Stadium, Lilongwe.
“It is painful to finish this season without a silverware. We started the season well but we missed our way in the league, this is the last cup of the season and we were hoping for it now we are out”, said Alufandika.
Tigers started the game well as they threatened home side in 54 seconds when Dan Kumwenda’s attempt at goal was saved by Kamuzu Barracks keeper, Amadu Ali.
The home side took the lead in the 33rd minute through a direct free kick by Harvey Nkacha’s that was curved into the net.
The first half ended in favour of Kamuzu Barracks.
Come second half, Tigers levelled the scores in the 53rd from another freekick by Bonda Mpinganjira.
Kamuzu Barracks made changes whereby Zinjani Yona and Gift Mbwana came in for Davie Banda and World Nkuliwa in the 64th minute a move which paid a dividend as Yona sealed the lead for the home side.
Kamuzu Barracks will face Master Security in the semifinals.
